Celebrity Prom Dates!

Hello Nerdfighters!

On last week's episode of Dear Hank and John, Episode 126: The Space Alien Orange Peel Health Craze, a listener named Annie wrote in about her prom dilemma. Essentially, here is what Annie had to say:

"My mom is insisting that I attend the senior prom. However, I have no one to go with since all of my friends are already in well established relationships... Should I pretend to go to the prom and then sneak off and spend the night alone... or should I come up with a devious plot to break up one of the pairs of my friends?"

Now, in true Dear Hank and John fashion, the Green brothers quickly deviated from the main question and suggested she find another person to attend the prom with (well, after John dangerously suggested that she purchase a date from the internet). But, John didn't suggest just any person, he proposed that Annie attend with none other than Ryan Gosling. A great plan indeed, however, that's a big ask.

THEN, Hank asked if there was a list of potential celebrity prom dates. Unfortunately, I'm not at liberty to offer up the company of any celebrity, but I am able to do a bit of research to see who in Hollywood actually has gone out of their way to attend prom with a fan in order to determine who Annie, or any other solo prom attendees, might be able to approach.

Here's what I found:
(Disclaimer, this is all just for fun and has no real information about the availability or likelihood of any of the following celebrities actually attending a prom.)

1) Taylor Swift
According to E!, Taylor participated in an MTV show once where she went to prom with a fan named Whit. Now, this was in 2008, during much simpler times, and if anybody follows any pop culture in 2018, they'll know that it's probably unlikely for the new, risen-from-the-dead Taylor to actually make this happen. It was also coordinated by a reality program that has dissolved, so chances are slim here.
Chances: Unlikely.



2) Vanessa Hudgens
Somewhat more recently, Vanessa attended prom with a fan back in 2014. According to Seventeen, she attended a prom that was set up especially for her date, a cancer patient named Cesar. It doesn't sound like Annie has this kind of prom set up, so maybe Vanessa won't be be her best bet, BUT I have heard that Vanessa is working on a new movie, Polar, that she may want to promote. So it's possible.
Chances: Possible...mmmaybe.



3) Jason Derulo
Now, Jason didn't attend prom as a date per se, but he did crash a prom in 2013 according to Ranker. This means that I'm not sure he'd accept a specific date invitation, but it could be worth a try. I did some sleuthing on Twitter and he seems like a sweet guy. There is one caveat though, he is doing a few shows in Europe and South America during March and May, so he may be unavailable.
Chances: Ehh...



4) Demi Lovato
After making her break in Hollywood, in 2010 Demi went back home to Texas to attend prom with someone she knew from school. I read on TigerBeat that she made a promise to a boy named Nolan that she would go to prom with him while they were in kindergarten. It's good to know she's a woman of her word. But, she did already have this promise set in place so unless you already have a verbal commitment, Demi, might not be a good bet. And, like Jason, Demi is also going on a world tour this spring.
Chances: Probs not.



5) Ryan Reynolds (sorta)
This story is a little different than the others, but it is particularly intriguing, especially since it involves a Ryan. In a story I read on Buzzfeed, just last year a girl named Gabi went to prom with her then-boyfriend, but unfortunately their relationship didn't last. In an effort to preserve her photos, she photoshopped pictures of Ryan Reynolds over her ex. The best part is, he was totally okay with it and even suggested taking his place in the yearbook as well. This shows serious promise... Maybe this year Ryan would be willing to do one better and actually attend a prom. Who knows? He also gets bonus points for being named Ryan.

Chances: Plausible.

In conclusion, there are plenty of celebrities who have gone and/or have pretended to have gone to prom with a fan. And this list is by no means exhaustive, there's plenty more.

I'm not sure what this really says about anyone's chances of nabbing a celeb prom date this year, but it could happen. And if all else fails... just photoshop someone in to the pictures and it's just like it happened for real (kinda).
